How it works

Telepresence Robotics is a field which has been created largely with the intention of enabling people to connect more efficiently with others who are at a distant location.  Telepresence Robots function via an internet connection, which makes connections with others generally simple and extremely convenient.  Whether these connections take shape in the form of conference calls or of walkthroughs of a factory floor or warehouse, Telepresence Robots allow the user to manage those connections from the convenience of their personal computer, wherever they may be located.  However, beyond simply being able to be included in a conference call or to view images of a warehouse, Telepresence Robots provide their owners a virtual presence.  Not only can they communicate through video conference calls and interact with distant locations by moving a robot around the facilities, the operator of the Robot can direct the cameras movements; performing such tasks as viewing multiple people in the room without those people having to rearrange their positioning in order to be seen by a screen.  Additionally, some Telepresence Robots provide the added functionality and enhancement of interaction through the use of user-controlled laser pointers.
