We used Collaborate i/o to conduct a virtual site-visit for one of my projects in Madera, CA where we evaluated a wastewater treatment plant for a hospital.  Our wastewater treatment expert was located in New Jersey, and it was going to cost us thousands of dollars to fly him in for the meeting and pay for his time.  Instead, we used Collaborate i/o to tour the wastewater treatment plant facility in Madera, CA, and our expert was able to control the camera and look closely at various several parts of the WWTP.  He was able to access the Collaborate i/o web interface and spent less than an hour on our virtual site visit.  We setup the camera at the site, and the setup was very easy and took less than 10 minutes.  Collaborate i/o makes sense for our clients because we can provide them access to our company-wide expertise without having the added travel expenses.  It's a huge benefit to the way we do business because it saves a lot of time and travel costs, but is far superior than traditional web-conferencing like webex for this type of application.

The MantaroBot Teleme is a very innovative design totally suited to todays market. With everyone carrying smart phones and tablets, this robot can utilise these devices as a control centre for its operations. This means that the cost of the robot is significanly reduced and it also means that the operators are familier with the platform they use to operate it.

The PeopleBot is a complex design. It is designed for the more high tech user and can be used for normal telepresence robot uses as well as more advanced operations. This includes writting C/C++ routines so that the robot can perform functions such and picking and placing of objects or facial recognition to follow people around a room. This is a great robot, but not very suited to the everyday user.

The QB Robot is a great design. It is slightly comical in its appearance which makes it a bit of a talking point, but it does the job well none the less. Its appearance can make it intimidating to non-technological people, but once they are used to it, they will find its operation simple. Its web-based control software means anyone can dial into the robot allowing very easy connections with clients. The laser pointer is also a great tool for getting the message across when talking from potentially the other side of the world.

The MantaroBot Classic is a great design. They have kept things simple by using a laptop as the main controller meaning there is not a lot of specialised electronics. This keeps the cost down and it allows the user to feel comfortable with the unit very quickly. The only down side is if a client has to dial in to control the robot, they require the MantaroBot control software. Idealy I would like them to be able to dial in using nothing other than their PC. This would make organising a conference call much simpler.
